Introducting: ROTERFADEN
A system for keeping — not just carrying.
A quieter kind of companion
There are some objects that feel temporary — used, replaced, forgotten.
And then there are those that stay.
Roterfaden belongs to the latter.
Crafted in Germany from thoughtfully selected materials, each Taschenbegleiter is designed to hold your work, your thoughts, and the small pieces of daily life that gather over time. It is both structure and freedom — a place for everything, without forcing you into a single way of working.
It is, in every sense, something you grow into.
What makes it different
At the heart of the Roterfaden system is a simple idea:
Your tools should adapt to you.
Instead of elastic bands or fixed bindings, each piece uses a clip system — allowing you to securely hold multiple notebooks, inserts, and loose materials in one place.
- Rearrange your setup at any time
- Add or remove notebooks as needed
- Keep everything protected and contained
Paired with thoughtfully designed interior pockets, it becomes more than a notebook cover — it becomes a working system.
Sizing Guide
Small (A6)
Compact and portable — ideal for minimal carry and smaller notebooks.
B6
A balanced, slightly smaller format that still offers room to build a system.
Medium (A5)
The most versatile and widely used size.
Comfortably fits standard A5 notebooks and planners — including pieces like the Hobonichi Cousin.
Large (A4)

What fits inside
Roterfaden is designed to work with you — not the other way around.
You can build your system using:
- Roterfaden notebook inserts
- Notepads, list sheets, or sketchbooks
- Your existing planners and journals
There is no requirement to start over.
Many customers use:
- Hobonichi planners
- Midori notebooks
- Personal journals already in rotation
The system simply brings them together — securely, and in one place.

How it can be used
There is no single “correct” way to use a Roterfaden — only what works for you.
Some ways it naturally fits into daily life:
- A planner + notebook + reference system
- A traveling journal with space for ephemera and collected pieces
- A working notebook for ideas, drafts, and lists
- An ink log or pen tracking system for shows and daily use
- A place to keep business cards, stickers, and small keepsakes
Over time, it becomes less of a product — and more of a record.
- A planner + notebook + reference system
A note from the Proprietor
I use mine every day.
I carry a medium LTD_020, and it has quietly become one of the most constant things in my routine. My Hobonichi Cousin lives inside it — it fits perfectly — along with a notepad insert for anything that doesn’t quite belong in the planner.
I keep stickers, small cards, and little pieces of ephemera tucked into the pockets — things I want to hold onto but still keep with me. There’s also a journal insert tucked inside, something more private that stays with the rest of my work.
When I travel or attend shows, it becomes even more useful. I can keep track of what I have inked, what I’ve tested, what I want to remember. Everything stays in one place, protected, without feeling rigid.
The leather is beautiful in a way that only gets better with time. The interior is soft, but still structured. The clips feel secure. The elastic holds everything together without effort.
It’s one of those rare things that feels like it will last longer than I will — and I mean that in the best way.
